What is Bookspeak?
Bookspeak is a simple app for your book club. The group sets the book of the month, each member gives it a rating and the app works out the group average. Recommendations have their own place, the whole history is kept, and regular meetups track when you meet and who's coming. All in one place, no ads.
Who is Bookspeak for?
For families and groups of friends who meet regularly — book clubs, knitting clubs, football groups and coffee meetups. You can also add one-off meetups.
Does Bookspeak have Icelandic books?
Yes. Bookspeak holds every Icelandic book and translation published in the last ten years, and the catalogue keeps growing. You search for the title, pick the book and the cover comes along automatically — no manual typing. This is exactly what's missing from international book club apps like Goodreads, Fable and StoryGraph, where Icelandic books are hard to find or absent altogether.
Is Bookspeak good for a book club?
Yes — Bookspeak is a book club app from the ground up. The group sets the book of the month, each member gives their own rating and the app shows the group's average. The book's Goodreads rating sits next to the group's own, book recommendations get their own place, and the whole history is kept.
Can I import our book club's older books?
Yes. You upload a file of the group's past books — title, month, year and rating — and Bookspeak finds the books, fetches the covers and slots them into your history. A club that has been running for years starts with everything intact instead of from zero.
What does Bookspeak cost?
Bookspeak is on its way to the App Store. It will be free during beta and cheap after that — kids are free. No ads, now or later, and your data is never sold.
How do I invite people to a group?
You send an invite link, for example in a message. Whoever gets it downloads the app and lands straight in the group — no searching for usernames, no fuss. You can also invite by email if people prefer that.
Can I be in several groups?
Yes, as many as you like. Your family, your book club and your knitting club all live in the same app, each with its own space and its own members. You can even be in two book clubs without them mixing.
How do meetups work?
You create a recurring meetup — Thursday coffee, Monday football or the knitting club — give it a name and an icon, and each person says whether they're coming. You see at a glance who's in and who hasn't answered yet. A new round starts automatically.
Is Bookspeak a meal planner app?
That's part of it. You arrange the week's dishes across seven days and everyone in the household sees the same menu on their phone — nobody has to ask what's for dinner.
Does Bookspeak work for a knitting club or a reading group?
Yes. Knitting clubs, reading groups, sewing circles and football groups all use the same meetup feature: you create a recurring meetup, give it a name and an icon, and each person RSVPs.
Will I get notifications?
Yes. The app lets you know when a new meetup is added and sends a reminder before it happens, so nobody forgets. You can always turn notifications off in your phone's settings.
Who can see what I put in?
Only members of your group. Nothing is public, there's no general search for people, and your data is never sold or used for advertising.
What devices does Bookspeak work on?
Bookspeak is an iPhone app coming soon to the App Store, and an Android version is on the way too. The app is in Icelandic and English.
